David & Sara started Hudson Valley Goldsmith in 2010 first traveling the East Coast to sell jewelry at juried craft shows and eventually, in fall 2013, opening a small store and workshop in New Paltz, NY. The business quickly outgrew the space and, in 2015, they moved the store to its current location on Main Street in New Paltz. Today, along with their team of goldsmiths, they create more than 1000 custom pieces a year, as well as sell the work of about 20 other artists.
Meet Our Team
David started working as a jeweler’s apprentice at the age of 16 ), received his BFA from SUNY New Paltz in one of the world’s top Metals programs, learning under some of the most accomplished metalsmiths in the world. After graduation he was hired to make jewelry for Tiffany & Co’s and went on to make custom jewelry for some of the country’s wealthiest families. David met Sara and was encouraged to go out on his own and start his own business, wholesaling custom designed jewelry, eventually selling direct to the public and opening a retail store.
While completing her masters and teaching several art & technology classes, she and her husband David started Hudson Valley Goldsmith. Sara handles operations, searches for new artists, organized events, manages the website, social media accounts, and marketing.

I’m a 3rd generation in the jewelry business, and have over ten years in the trade. I have studied at the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) over the past 5 years and have my Graduate Diamond Degree. I am continuing my studies and plan to have my GG (Graduate Gemologist) in a few years. Diamonds, of course, are my favorite and all the different shapes, cuts and colors they come in. The best part of my job is finding the right piece of jewelry for someone, or for their significant other, something that really looks like it belongs solely for that individual.
In may of 2017 Brianna graduated from the Savannah College of Art and design with a BFA in jewelry design.
